Fast Food “Fibs”

Sometimes fast food seems simple.  A burger from a well-known chain contains a bun, cheese, sauce, beef patty, Fast Food "Fibs"!lettuce, pickles, and onions.  All things that you can distinctly recognize and think that you are eating.  However, when you dive into the actual ingredients of these foods, some of them contain over 72 ingredients! (and how many do you think you can actually pronounce?) Within that long list, you will find high fructose corn syrup, artificial coloring, and Propylene Glycol Alginate (commonly found in anti-freeze and shampoo).

The point is, that there really is no substitute for freshly prepared healthy meals.  Even the fast Fast Food "Fibs"food restaurants that sell salads, wraps, etc. jam pack their dressing and sauces with fat, sugar, and sodium.  Many restaurants have turned to a “healthy/fit” menu to go alongside their traditional menu, but remember, they are using the exact same ingredients as they do for their other foods; maybe just in smaller portions.

The best way to avoid these “fast food fibs” is to follow the tips below.A healthy snack choice

  • Keep snacks in the car for on the go snacking (almonds, walnuts, peanuts, whole wheat crackers, high fiber granola snacks, etc.) Here’s my recommendation for 4 great, on the go, gluten-free, snack bars. Click on Choco Chip, Peanutty Bliss, Fudge Delite, Go Nuts ‘n’ Berries. Click HERE for a few more healthy snack ideas.
  • Plan weekly meals ahead of time so you won’t be tempted to stop and pick up food on the way home
  • Chop veggies/divide meat/separate ingredients ahead of time so cooking time is cut down dramatically

So the next time you run through a fast food joint, think about what you are actually eating, and you might just want to think twice about it!

To Your Healthy Day!
